Thanks to the great flexibility, WordPress allows you to create an extensive and stable website

September 10, 2021 | Blog

When creating a new website, choosing a content management system can be a difficult decision. We need to determine if it will be better to create something from scratch or reach for a popularly used CMS engine. Many start-ups today choose WordPress CMS for this purpose, which ensures quick site startup, reducing many problems associated with its implementation, such as searching for savings or the need for scalability of computing power.

Building a website based on the most popular CMS platform – WordPress has many benefits. This open-source engine written in PHP and using the MySQL database by default allows today to build not only a template blog or a simple page. By using many advanced functions, you can create an extensive website with non-standard, distinctive posts. The WordPress engine is very flexible – it can be easily adapted to almost any type of content and website. This flexibility also means the possibility of implementing the optimal solution in terms of both specific needs and the budget. This feature is extremely valuable for people who want to lead their project in the way modern startups do.

WordPress = security

When choosing a content management platform, it’s important to keep it secure. How useful will even the most creatively created website or valuable content be if the entire project is threatened at a technical level? The content management system should protect not only against spam or the possibility of manipulation of comments, but even against possible total loss of the database or substitution of the page content. In this field, WordPress is distinguished by its remarkable stability and reliability.

Security is mainly due to the fact that the engine code is open and publicly available – because the more people can view it, the more errors are noticed and the more efficient they are leveled. However, please remember, as with any other software, to update to the latest version. Free plugins, which are rarely improved, can be a weakness. To have almost one hundred percent certainty about the reliability of add-ons, it is worth using dedicated solutions, written and developed on a regular basis by professional developers performing such services. An additional plus is specialist technical support.

Pre-made designs will allow you to create a foundation for your site

There are many free, open source blog systems and CMS systems on the web, thanks to which we can create our website in a short time. The mechanisms of working with templates in different CMS systems are characterized by a different level of difficulty and intuitiveness of use. Not always, however, the free template manages to 100% match the requirements of a particular site, and PHP learning and practice can take a long time. Then dedicated motifs, i.e. designed to order, come in handy.

Michał Smereczyński Despite the huge number of free templates and a multitude of extensions, customers often come to us with a request to design a unique, dedicated theme. By loading the ready template we often get a lot of unnecessary classes and functions that unnecessarily burden our hosting and can introduce chaos and problems when managing the website. A dedicated theme guarantees the creation of a website that really stands out from the crowd

– says Michał Smereczyński, Technology Evangelist from the Brandoo Group.

On the Internet, we can easily find information on almost every issue related to the platform. Problems, site management strategies, guides and tips were often raised in various blogs. However, if we don’t have the opportunity to work independently, it is worth looking around for commercial support.

Control over linking

A valuable feature of WordPress is also automatic information in the form of pingbacks and trackbacks. Pingback informs that someone has added a link to our blog, page or post. Trackback is information that an entry appeared somewhere that is a response to one of our articles. Thanks to these functions, we have the ability to control who, what, when and in what context speaks about us (within the network of WordPress-based sites, which according to Forbes already has over 60 million).

According to the research from August 2013, almost 20% of the 10 million most popular sites in the world are based on WordPress, which gives a 58% market share.

WordPress for start-ups

The multitude of plugins and solutions enables quick and trouble-free implementation of the website. Why is speed so important here? Start-up culture has its own rules. A popular practice is to run the so-called a product with the minimum necessary functionality (English: Minimum Viable Product, abbreviated MVP), i.e. the first version of the product or service that should see the light of day. This is to receive comprehensive opinions about the product or service, and ultimately to increase the chance of success of the new company. WordPress is perfect as a system for testing new ideas, learning behavior and user needs, and then for implementing patches efficiently.

WordPress is a perfect solution for people who want to enrich their website with various functions, such as comments system, subscriptions, contact forms, widgets, forum, statistics or to integrate with social media. The site can be expanded indefinitely with little effort

– by Tomasz Zamarlik, Creative Director at the Brandoo Group.

Thanks to plugins we can publish videos from various services directly on the site. Above YouTube and Vimeo.

YES! for search engine optimization

WordPress is also one of the best and most frequently chosen content management systems in terms of effective site optimization for search engines. Appropriate optimization allows you to achieve high search results, and thus more effective promotion of the site, which is especially important for e-businesses.

Fig. Krzysztof Lebdowicz Thanks to extensive functions, such as the possibility of creating friendly addresses, adding tags, creating an XML map, a properly configured website under WordPress is often better seen by a Google robot than websites based on other engines. A lot of special plugins created for this purpose can also help in more effective optimization

– says Krzysztof Lebdowicz, founder of the AdHelp search engine marketing agency.

WordPress in the cloud

Until recently, launching your own website – blog or portal – was associated with buying traditional hosting and required a lot of knowledge. Today, the Internet is largely a cloud, which is nothing more than a service in which with a few clicks we can launch our own WordPress at our own address. There is no need to worry about server administration issues.

What distinguishes traditional hosting from the cloud is primarily scalability. Traditional hosting has some (smaller or larger) restrictions. If the site is just appearing on the web and generates little traffic, even small hosting is sufficient. However, when popularity appears, e.g. excavation effect, it is often necessary to migrate to a new server. The cloud lets you forget about these types of problems.

Michał Smereczyński Chmura is a place where a launched website has access to almost infinite power. The most popular CMS today – WordPress – had to be in this new reality. While building websites based on this CMS for our clients – they are often large portals – we suggest launching them in the cloud. We use the Microsoft cloud – Windows Azure. Thanks to the dynamic scaling of computing power, the websites we create can service the growing number of visitors. Until recently, scaling the database was an obstacle – for WodPress it is MySQL by default. That is why we decided to create a version of WordPress dedicated to the Windows Azure cloud, which uses the AzureSQL database – it scales according to customer needs, so nothing can surprise him in terms of performance. An additional advantage of using the WordPress connection and the Windows Azure cloud is the method of settlement. The cloud allows you to pay only for the resources consumed, which eliminates the need to pay a permanent subscription, sometimes greater than would be required by traffic on our site

– explains Michał Smereczyński.

WordPress is hot

If we’re interested in internet marketing, content publishing or just webmastering, WordPress is one of the best choices. The engine will meet the needs of both beginners – for learning or when taking the first steps in e-business, as well as companies with an established position on the market, wanting to expand their website with e.g. a new offer. The flexibility guaranteed by the engine is the possibility of implementing optimal solutions tailored to the needs and budget of our project.
